Many six year olds are out there enjoying playing with friends, playing sport, reading, and perhaps watching a bit of TV. Well not six year old Iona House. Ioana with just a little help with her parents has become New Zealand’s, and perhaps the worlds, youngest home owner.
Iona has been saving her $5,800 a week pocket money from her parents since the age of four, allowing her enough to pay the $140,000 deposit required on a $700,000 property in Auckland.
Iona’s dad, owner of “Ilovehouses.com” (and in no way is promoting his company), can’t understand what other young kids are doing with their pocket money. He said “Young kids spending all their pocket money on toys is astronomical”. “All it takes is saving that $5,800 a week pocket money from mum and dad for two years and you too can be a homeowner”. “When I was six I was working four jobs. Working at the local bakery up at 3am in the morning. Followed by a 2 hour stint making coffee at the coffee shop. After school I would then work 3 hours at the Pharmacy dispensing prescriptions, before finally doing an evening shift stocking shelves at the supermarket”. “The laziness of six year olds these days beggars belief”.
Kids need to pull themselves up by the bootstraps.
From Iona: “I got a humble side hustle at four years old doing the chores at home. Daddy offered me a measly rate of $1,160 an hour. 2 years of doing chores 5 hours a week later, and I had saved enough for a deposit. All my friends were on $2,000 a hour but frittering it away.”.
“It’s all about choices. You just have to grind to get ahead. If I can do it anyone can”.
Happy April fools day (Bit of an obvious one sorry!).
The inspiration behind today’s post coming from this very real article. I honestly couldn’t make this up on my own. There’s some truly delusional people out there. The article totally skirts around the real headline which is really “dad buys property for kids”. At least now, in New Zealand’s own property guru Iona House, we have beaten the Aussies at something 😊
Have a great week.
