Don’t dismiss financial independence just because you enjoy your job now. I firmly believe financial independence is an attractive goal for everyone.
I have seen too many people, myself included, think their job is fantastic and they will love it forever. Until it’s not. Things change and that enjoyment is gone.
you never know when financial indepndence will come in handy
Jobs change
You may be given more menial tasks to complete, such as paperwork
You may be left short staffed and carrying more of a load
You may get a new boss who makes your life difficult or not as good as it once was
You may be made redundant
You may lose a good friend or two from your office making your job less enjoyable
You are given unrealistic targets
You change
You may be looking for new and different opportunities
You may lose interest in your job over time
You may have a young family you want to spend time with
You (or a family member) may get injured or sick and unable to work
These are just a few examples that may or may not be close to home for me 😊
Life doesn’t stay static. Change is a guarantee.
We change, others change, situations change.
Not many are fortunate enough to have a job position they are passionate about for life. It is easy to go through periods of joy with your job, but that can easily change.
I have had a job I love before turn into a job I hate in the space of a few days with the arrival of a new boss. One person impacting my life in a bad way happened way too quick and way too easy.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have some financial back up for when your job turns to custard or you get the flick?
If you have no reason to save money, then maybe financial independence should be reason enough. You never know when you may need or want to cash in some chips.
