Many people are obsessed with earning money.
For some it gives them status
For others it allows them to live an extravagant lifestyle
For others it is just to keep up with expenses
For others it is just for the sake of earning money
But when is enough enough? When does the pursuit for more money become fruitless?
Our time on earth is limited and how we choose to spend each day is of upmost importance.
I am so glad to have found the financial independence movement. By the way I always write about money, you may think that I too am obsessed with money. That’s not the case though. I am obsessed with freedom of choice. A minimum amount of money will allow this, but once I reach that point, I am willing to slow down. Make choices for pleasure, not for money.
I could continue to work another 20 years in my current job and earn over $2 million thanks to inflation. I am turning that down though. I’ve decided that money is best used to design your ideal life. If the way you are earning money, i.e your job, is not providing joy, then why keep earning income just for the sake of it?
Warren Buffet is extremely wealthy, with a net worth of $81 billion. He enjoys what he is doing with life, so the fact that it brings in large amounts of income is irrelevant here. The other important number is he is 90 years old.
Now my question to you is would you trade places with Warren Buffet? If you are younger than 80, chances are that most of you would answer no. No to over $81 billion! That is because time is far more important than how much money we have. So make the most of your time left on this earth by designing your best life. Say no to that unfulfilling job. Say yes to things that you won’t regret.
Live modestly. Don’t worry about what others think. Know when enough is enough.
